[ren was definitely a wallflower, and this party was making him extremely uncomfortable. while he knew how to dance, and to dance well, he still wasn't much for talking- or for crowds really. he had also stepped off to the side, drinking his drink and watching everyone around him. his family wasn't nearly as strict as the schnees, but he was told to be on his best behavior and to properly greet all the schnees that he saw.
weiss had been next on his list, and just as he made his way over to her he saw that she was being hit on. oh- wow... what should he even do? ignore it? say something? he should really say something but he hated saying anything. okay- no really the best option was to say something, most definitely.
ren walked over to the two of them, and he tapped the boy on the shoulder. when he turned around, ren simply cleared his throat before speaking.]
Ahem! Uhm... I think you're needed at the bar- some... girl wanted to buy you a drink? [would that even work? he didn't-... ah, now the boy nodded and was now leaving to go see who wanted to flirt with him next. perfect. ren sighed a little, and then glanced at weiss, before looking off to the side. back to being a little more quiet, yeah...]
[ Weiss stared at the newcomer with a cross between irritation and the clear knowledge that she probably should be grateful that the new person managed to solve the situation without causing a scene. Weiss was getting the feeling that she was going to have to if he kept things up, which wouldn't make Father happy, which wouldn't make her happy, which wouldn't make anyone happy.
But she knew she wasn't mad at the other boy. It was the irritating jerk that she had taken issue with, so she took a deep breath and put on that fake smile she'd been practicing. Usually she could do that out of the public eye so it wasn't so obvious but he was here at this party. If he was as vapid as so many other people here, it wouldn't matter he'd be too focused on pegging himself a hero. If he had half a brain he'd understand why her smile looked strained. ]
I appreciate your assistance. Some people really don't take a straight-forward "no" for an answer.
[ Followed by the perfect curtsy and a bow of the head. ] I'm Weiss.
[ren definitely wasn't like the other people at this party. he wasn't loud, he wasn't obnoxious, and he definitely wasn't the social type. maybe if nora had been allowed to come she would have at least been the distraction, been the one that gathered everyone and he wouldn't ever have to talk to anyone. heck- nora probably would have scared that guy off just as easily, too. even so, he was at this party to represent his own family, he needed to prove to them he could do this.
he saw her smile and he furrowed his brows in response. she really was trying hard, wasn't she? he could see that her expression wasn't genuine at all- she was merely pretending. he didn't really like that, but who was he to stop her? if she really felt like she had to put on a mask then he wasn't about to tell her not to do that.
ren smiled, for just a moment, before he went back to his neutral expression. he had his hands on either side of him and just bowed deeply before her.]
Ren... I'm Ren. [he stated it simply before straightening up again.
...now what? he just shifted a little bit, obviously looking uncomfortable, and his gaze seemed to drift away from hers.]
Have... guys like that been approaching you all night? [small talk, yes, start with that.]
[ The brow furrowing response wasn't one she expected and it threw her for a loop. He wasn't trying beyond the initial smile, he wasn't even taking credit for saving her. ]

[ Well at least she knows she's especially not supposed to upset him. She seems to answer a little more honestly now that he's not doing anything immediately self-serving. She lets the fake smile fade from her lips, though she doesn't quite let her guard down yet. ]
They usually do at these type of events. I take it you didn't come over here not knowing my last name.
[the host's son... yup, that sure is him. he figured he could get away from the crowds if he were some random party goer, but no... he had to mingle and be polite on behalf of his family. ren nodded at her, answering her with a silent 'yes i'm that son'.

[ However, Weiss.. wants fresh air. Despite that she said they could remain silent, she looks around. She.. has an idea, but it would definitely involve breaking the rules, which she's not keen on yet. So she mostly just looks over uncertainly at the wine glasses.
A quick spill and Ren could be a gentleman and help her go clean up. But would that really be okay? He might call a servant or chide her for spilling, or... ]
