[the schnee heiress needed new clothing for her time in atlas, that was all he had been told. so, it meant that she needed to have the best and most luxurious clothing. it wasn't as though ishida was worried about his designs- he had actually known weiss for quite a while. he had been her tailor as well before she left for beacon, and it helped that they were both the same age.
either way, it was time to show off some more designs for her.
ishida knocked at her door, his sketchbook with all his designs tucked under his arm, and he retracted his hand after rapping on the cold surface a few times in order to push up his glasses. alright, weiss, time to see an old tailor friend.]
[ Rather than a servant opening the door as he might've come to expect in the past, Weiss herself pulled the door open. It was good to see a familiar face that wasn't related to her or didn't answer to her father. ]
Ishida, come in!
[ Even if she looks a little downtrodden, that's probably about 500% more pleasant than she used to be. ]
[ishida had been expecting a servant to open the door, definitely, but when he saw that it was weiss he was frankly quite surprised. she was suddenly doing things that others could easily do for her? of course he had teased her in the past about that- but he figured a schnee wouldn't change that easily.
but... had she changed?]
Ah... hello, Schnee. [calling each other by their last names had begun as a formality, but it sincerely felt strange to even try to call her 'weiss' now. either way, he tried to shake the surprised look from his face but it wasn't really working. ishida stepped inside just as she had requested.]
First things first-... it's good to see you again. [he moved to push his glasses up his face.] How are you feeling?
[ Like he wouldn't believe. Weiss didn't realize how much it was herself, of course, but she knew it had happened. She felt so out of place in this mansion she once called home. At just being called Schnee, Weiss realized how truly strange it felt. Someone she'd once considered the closest thing she had to a friend, even if they weren't that close, called her by her last name. Wasn't that strange?
Weiss tried to force herself not to look dejected. Somehow it made her feel alone to just be called by her last name by the one person she'd hoped wouldn't- even if she'd done the same to him. ]
Weiss. Call me Weiss.
[ As for his question, she wasn't sure she really wanted to answer that. Weiss closed the door after him. ]
I'm feeling... as can be expected. [ Admitting weakness in this household wasn't really permissible. And she didn't really know him anymore, not after all this time. She doubts she's the only one who's changed. ]
[just as he thought that calling her by her first name would be weird- she asked him to do just that. he knew that it would be an odd, new sensation, especially since before she had so readily and easily accepted her last name. now- it seemed as though she resented it. he caught that flash of disappointed across her features, and in turn he felt himself furrow his brow in worry.
they had always been so similar in so many ways, cut from almost the same cloth so that ishida could relate to her. his father... was an unsavory type as well, and ishida completely hated the man. he was an awful, lousy, doctor- and even thinking about him set his emotions on fire. so... he got it, he understood what she was trying to ask of him.
ishida cleared his throat before speaking.]
Weiss... then. [strange, it was still so strange. he wanted to tell her that she could speak freely with him whenever... but would that actually help? he just didn't know. remain quiet, he told himself, just focus on what he came here to do.]
Mm. I figured as much. Well then- [ishida decided it was better for her to be distracted than to talk about what happened back in vale. that would only upset her more, he figured. ishida brought out the book he had under his arm and he handed it to her.]
Here are several of my designs. Some are photos of current ones I've made and others are just sketches- I can get you whatever you want.
[ She was fine with it either way, but honestly.. being called Weiss made her feel like she had more of an identity. She wasn't just part of her father's empire. It's part of why she wanted new clothing.
As she looked at the designs, the more she saw her family's symbol the more she wondered if perhaps it had become more of a brand than something that represented her. She still loved her family, but she wasn't something that needed her father's symbol branded across her back anymore. ]
Can we do something like this, but remove the logo? I know I insisted before I left, but..
and yet again his expression took on that of pure concern. it was all bubbling within him, he wished that he had the courage to ask her about what was really bothering her- but he also felt like he knew. she just... wanted to be separated from her family, he could feel that.
alright, so think of her as just weiss, not a schnee. he could do that, easily.]
Consider the logo removed. [his answer was firm, so that she knew she didn't need to worry about it- really.]
....Your father doesn't define you, either way. [he knew he shouldn't say something like that, but he felt like she needed that extra push from him.]
[ Weiss almost looked surprised when he said those last few words. It was a sentiment that people knew at Beacon, but since she'd been back in Atlas, surrounded by her father's whims and will all the time, it had been something she'd been struggling with. Even just one person besides herself telling her that was enough to nearly overwhelm her, but she managed not to. She had far more control over her emotions- at least about this.
So Ishida would see something that was a much rarer sight before she'd gone to Beacon: a grateful smile. ]
[pushing up his glasses again ishida tried to regain his composure. it was fine, everything was fine, he just wasn't used to seeing weiss smile like that.]
She pointed to the one that she wanted, similar to this with a stylized bolero. ]
Can I get boots with it or did my father say I had to wear regular heels in the house?
[ Say boots please she's hoping her dad didn't say no boots. ]
Also, is there anything I can do to help? As much time as I've been spending in my room, it isn't as though staring out the window is particularly... productive.
[aahh perfect, that was a good dress, he knew it would look amazing on her. ishida nodded as he pulled out a pen. he took the book back from her, jotting down her request for boots.]
Boots, I can do. There's no rule against that after all- and even if there were I probably wouldn't listen. [because boots would look great with this.
and at her question he just smiled back at her, a rare expression but it was something he often showed to weiss after all.]
Sure, that would be fine. Your father wouldn't have any objections to you coming and visiting me in the sewing room, I hope.
[ Her father has objections to all of her life choices. She looks away when she answers. ]
If anyone's going to get in trouble for it, it'll be me, not you.
[ And Weiss was used to getting yelled at. As far as things to get yelled at over, being a gofer for the person making her dresses (since she had zero talent as a seamstress herself) was not one of the ones she was concerned with, even if it wouldn't be a fun time. ]
[it really will be better around the massive mansion with her around. he was always so bored, but at least with weiss here to keep him company he'll have someone around his age to talk to.]
If he really has an issue- then I'll just bring my sewing into your room.
[since apparently her father hates it when she leaves her room.]
...There's no rule against me heading back already, so we could just hang out in your room for a little while longer.
[ No, it's the part where if Weiss is hanging out with and helping servants that he would have a problem with. She's allowed to leave her room for now she's just been too depressed to lately.
She seems amenable to staying put for now though. It means she gets to hang around him. ]
[well. ishida was never one to mingle with the rich folks of this place either way. he found it to be annoying around them most of the time, but he really had no choice as the schnee's tailor.
so of course he put on an annoyed expression.]
They could be better- but I've also chosen to ignore the idiots that keep running their mouths on things they know nothing about. People talk way too much.
[ Smiling didn't come as easily as it once had, even if it came easier now than it had the last time she'd been here. Weiss nodded in agreement, heading over toward the chair in her room. ]
[he understood what she was saying, but he was still saddened that he hadn't gone with her to beacon. he could have at least looked out for her, helped her out, and also gotten a team of his own...
now that would have been interesting.]
True, true... [but-] ...If there's ever trouble again you can count on me fighting, however.
[ Weiss does such a great job of keeping in touch with people in Atlas while she's gone. She should win an award for 'most ignored phone calls.' Granted, 99% of them were from her father. She might not have had much of a clue if Ishida was really capable of much as a huntsman even before she left though.. Weiss's priorities were mostly on herself and finding a way away. ]
[oh yes, he had started attending a little bit after she had left for beacon herself. he was a skilled hunter as well, she had just never bothered to really ask.]
That's right, General Ironwood is an excellent headmaster. [while he didn't have a beacon team, he did have an atlas team.]
[oh yes, team FNKI.... and penny. penny truly was a tragedy, and everyone had watched that unfold on the big screen.
ishida shook his head slightly.]
No- you couldn't catch me in a tournament. Unless... our team somehow managed to make it to the tournament. Then it would most likely be me and Kurosaki, just like it was you and... Yang? Right?
[ She nods. Don't dwell on Penny, don't think about Pyrrha. Uryuu has been great about talking about things without really.. forcing her to do anything. She mourns enough as it is. ]
I've improved since then too, though not being able to practice properly.. I may be a little rusty.
[ishida really isn't someone that pries, or even forces conversation. he is much too closed off himself to really want to even open up at all, much less make someone else open up.]
You could always practice off of me, you know. I bet your father may not like it but it would be better than nothing.
